Flatmate Flow

About

Built by people who lived the roommate pain.

Flatmate Flow exists because the existing apps got it wrong. We got tired of fighting our roommates over a spreadsheet.

Why it exists

Three apps, four group chats, one fight a week.

Anyone who's lived in a shared apartment or house knows the routine. One app for splitting bills, another for the shopping list, a third for the chores no one ever does, plus a Discord, two WhatsApp groups and a half-finished Google Sheet that someone made in 2022 and nobody's touched since.

The bill-splitting apps are good at bill splitting and nothing else. The home-management apps treat the house like a corporate Kanban board. The spreadsheets work for the person who built them and confuse everyone else. Meanwhile someone's eaten the leftovers, the rent's due tomorrow, the bins didn't go out, and somehow it's a fight again.

Flatmate Flow is the app we wished existed when we were renting. Bills, chores, shopping, budget, calendar, polls and the notice board, all handled in one place, on terms that match how real roommate households actually work. Custom splits because nobody's share is exactly equal. Twenty-eight-day chore cycles because trash doesn't care about the work week. Receipt scanning because we're not entering line items by hand.

Who's behind it

The team behind Flatmate Flow.

We're a small team based in Australia. We've all lived in shared houses and apartments. The good ones, the disaster ones, and the ones somewhere in between. Flatmate Flow is a real product, built deliberately, by people who've felt the pain it solves.

We pick our scope carefully. We'd rather do a small set of things properly than ship a bloated suite that does everything badly. The receipt scanner is powered by Anthropic's Claude because that's the cleanest way to read a real-world supermarket docket. The bill splitter supports custom per-bill splits because "divide equally" doesn't reflect any actual roommate household we've been in.

We're also reachable. The contact email goes to a real person. Feedback, bug reports, "why doesn't this work" emails are read and acted on.

What's coming

On the roadmap.

The web app already runs beautifully on phones. That's where most people use it day to day. You can also install Flatmate Flow as a Progressive Web App on iOS and Android. You get an app icon on your homescreen, a full-screen experience with no browser bar, and push notifications for new bills, chore reminders, and shopping list updates. For most people, it's indistinguishable from a native app.

Native iOS and Android apps are on the roadmap for tighter camera integration on the receipt scanner and a few platform features the web can't reach yet. We're not in a rush. The PWA covers most of what people actually need.

Beyond that, we keep our public roadmap quiet on purpose. Anything we promise here, we'd feel obliged to ship in the order we said it. We'd rather react to what real roommates ask for, in real time. If there's something missing for you, tell us.
